Summary

America First represents US domestic upheaval as a global event. The article argues that America is too embedded in global economy, security and political imagination for its internal fractures to remain internal. Polarization, debt pressure, industrial policy, and war fatigue now transmit into foreign policy. Markets price American volatility. The older promise of open globalization is giving way to guarded trade, conditional alliances, protectionism and harsher bargaining. The article does not declare American decline. It insists the United States remains unmatched in economic power, military reach and cultural force. The anxiety is different. A mighty but divided America may still dominate the world while becoming harder to trust. Its future influence depends on rebuilding domestic legitimacy without turning global leadership into permanent transaction.
